Meet The Team.

The creator and curator of THE WRITE TRAIL, Dr Poonam Madar is a recognised Ealing-based sociologist, commentator, writer, published author, academic and multi-sensory storyteller who has combined her quantitative and qualitative research expertise with her commitment to diverse and inclusive writing, culture, and expressiveness.

In spring 2022, Dr Madar ran the acclaimed and successful month-long Ealing Writing Trail, a first-of-its-kind literary event in the Borough, that she conceived, created, crowdfunded, and independently delivered.

Inspired by the community response, Dr Madar successfully proposed a refreshed and expanded programme to the National Lottery through Arts Council England that would include all seven towns in Ealing. And so THE WRITE TRAIL was born.

Dr. Madar’s writing focuses on social issues, the human condition, and themes of identity in urban spaces. She recently published a chapter in Black Music in Britain in the 21st Century and is the co-author of a study examining COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy among South Asians in London. Dr Poonam Madar continues to design and host bespoke writing experiences centred on creativity, innovation, wellbeing and dynamic learning.

She’s an honorary research fellow at City, University of London and a member of Lapidus International’s Writing for Wellbeing Community editorial board. Dr Poonam is a highly sought after coach and trains researchers, academics, businesses, universities, and research organisations through her Working Warrior consultancy.

The positive response from creatives, participants and residents about the Ealing Writing Trail was overwhelming, and I wanted extend the opportunity and benefit to other Ealing communities. Each town within the borough has its own identity that deserves to be celebrated, and I have therefore endeavoured to incorporate that into THE WRITE TRAIL. I am grateful to Arts Council England for reinforcing, through this grant, that Ealing and its seven towns deserve recognition for their distinct histories and thriving multicultural communities.
