Contemporary Erasure Poetry
Thursday 02 May 2024 | Venue: Online | Time: 3.15pm - 4.45pm | Cost: FREE | Capacity: 20 guests | Age: 16+
I keep writing my name on the sand and the waves come to erase it.
--AhmedTaha (Gaza Monologues, 2010)
Erasure is a poetic technique where portions of pre-existing text are eliminated to create new meaning out of the remaining text. In this workshop, participants will be presented with various texts to selectively erase and then add their own text to complete the poem, resulting in a completely original work that contains only ephemeral traces of what existed before.
Erasure is a complex form that proposes we engage in the question of invisible ownership, the endurance of what is lost, and perhaps the question of how we might summon it back.
Writing Ability: Suitable for ALL levels
What to bring: All attendees will be asked to bring their own writing pad and pen.
All workshop ephemera (poems, articles, letters) will be provided 10 days ahead of the session but participants are also welcome to bring their own, if desired.
This workshop will be led by Maxine Flasher-Düzgüneş.

Project Collage
Saturday 04 May 2024 | Venue: Northolt Library | Time: 12.30pm – 2.30pm | Cost: FREE | Capacity: 15 guests | Age: 4 years +
Project Collage is a creative enterprise that encourages children and adults to express themselves through the mindful art of collage. Collage breaks the rules. By ripping and sticking, participants view things differently. A fashion magazine used alongside fragments of a bird magazine lifts the everyday into the abstract absurd. Encouraging us to see words in a similar way.
The workshop will include collage-making activities which are used to unleash your imagination and let it go wild.
Adults will work with their children creating visual art pieces that explore chosen themes. In the latter part of the workshop, attendees will use these collages as a stimulus for some free writing.
What words will your mind conjure as you absorb the artwork you have created together? Writing about collage is a liberating process. Will you follow a narrative or unpack your words in the abstract?
There are no rights or wrongs in this workshop, just come along if you want to give your imagination the space to be utterly creative.
An interactive, hands-on workshop which explores the power of art and collaboration.
Writing Ability: Suitable for all writing abilities
What to bring: Materials will be supplied however if you have any magazines, wrapping paper or old birthday cards you’d like to bring along, we welcome your contributions. Remember to wear something you don’t mind getting messy.
This workshop will be led by Kayeligh Cassidy.

Found Poetry
Thursday 16 May, | Time: 10am - 12pm | Venue: Ealing Central Library | Capacity: 15 guests | Age: 16+
Sometimes the hardest part about writing is finding the right words to get you started. Problem solved! In this workshop we will use existing bits of text found in books and magazines to create our own original pieces. Your task will be to either eliminate text that is not part of your poem (blackout poetry) or to cut, rearrange, and paste words into a poem (cut-out poetry). Both techniques will be learned and used as we piece our poetry together.
These short poems might even become the inspiration for further writing in the form of essays or fiction. You will leave this fun and laid-back session with a few finished poems and loads of inspiration from your fellow-poets.
This workshop will be led by Brittany Lopez Burton.

This workshop explores how you can build and develop a gentle and realistic journaling practice that works for you. Using different journaling techniques to get us started, we will embark on a journey of self-expression that’s uniquely our own.
Guided by writing prompts inspired by Bollywood songs, this playful workshop offers a safe and supportive environment for you to express yourself freely in your own unique style.
All you need to do is show up and remember, you are writing for yourself.
This workshop is perfect for beginners new to journaling, love Bollywood, and are willing to try something new.
Writing Ability: Suitable for ALL writing abilities.
What to bring: Notepad and pen/pencil alongside a yoga mat and blanket (we will not be doing yoga, but you can use your mat to sit comfortably and write if you do not wish to sit on a chair).
This workshop will be led by
Dr Poonam Madar.

Wild Spaces and Urban Spaces
Wednesday 22 May 2024 | Venue: Online | Time: 7PM – 9PM | Cost: FREE | Capacity: 15 guests | Age: 16+
This workshop ventures into urban places and wild spaces: tameness and wildness, constraint and freedom, mastery and mystery, a skyscraper and an oak tree.
We read a poem or two, responding together in real time; from there I invite you to make your own wild poem, guiding you along the way.
We will practise shared reading and use a blend of creative, expressive and reflective writing approaches as prompts. In this supportive, confidential space, you will have the opportunity to share your writing (although you will never be obliged to do so) and to reflect on others’
writing.
Writing Ability: Suitable for all writing abilities.
What to bring: Notepad and pen/pencil
This workshop will be led by Alison Cable
